Item Public Libraries and ICT Integration(University Library and Department of Library & Information Science, Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State, 2025-09-27) Tyoyila Simon Bem; Uwagwe Obigho Christopher; Agaji Blessing Otalefu; Aimiebenomon Amina Peace; Denis JohnPurpose: Building on Sustainable Development Goal 16, this study examines how public libraries can utilise information and communication technology (ICT) to promote justice and peace. Research indicates that ICT improves public awareness, disseminates relevant information, optimises resource use, enhances service quality, and provides access to vital justice and peace information. Public libraries also play a crucial role in fostering social change, safeguarding fundamental liberties, and encouraging inclusive access to knowledge through digital resources and advocacy efforts. Methodology: the descriptive survey design was chosen to investigate the relationship between public library ICT use and the implementation of SDG 16 in North-Central Nigeria. Using structured questionnaires, this design supports data collection from a large population, enabling respondents to express their opinions openly. Findings: The findings emphasise the need for stronger regulation and funding of public libraries' ICT infrastructure to increase their impact on sustainable development. Public libraries must leverage ICT to enable effective information sharing and promote public engagement in justice and peace initiatives, the study finds. Recommendations: The study recommends greater government and community support for ICT-based library initiatives and the implementation of strategic policies to enhance libraries' roles in promoting peace, justice, and resilient institutionsItem Integration of artificial intelligence (AI) driven security measures in library systems(credence-publishing.com, 2025-06-30) Makinde Emmanuel Tunde; Obanigwe Joy Ishioma; Otaiku Christiana Onyemowo; Tyoyila Simon BemWith an emphasis on data protection, this research investigates the role of the systems librarian in maintaining cybersecurity within library information systems. The paper highlights the vital roles that systems librarians play in protecting sensitive user data by reviewing the body of literature on the changing state of cybersecurity in libraries using secondary research. Important cybersecurity practices like encryption, access control, and AI powered security tools are examined, and their effectiveness in library environments is assessed. Proactive measures like frequent security audits, privacy evaluations, and ongoing professional development for library staff are also addressed, as is the moral significance of cybersecurity in libraries, with a focus on the necessity of open and transparent privacy guidelines and adherence to data protection laws like the FCCPA and GDPR. This study provides a thorough framework for systems librarians to successfully handle cybersecurity issues in digital library networks by synthesising current best practices. The findings are intended to help guide the creation of policies, strengthen data security procedures, and strengthen the systems librarian's function in creating safe, user-centred library environments.Item Inclusive Library services(Department of Library and Information Science, University of Maiduguri, Borno State, 2025-06-15) Adekoya Olayinka Mary; Adamu Abdulrahman Maryam; Tyoyila Simon Bem; Olaseigbe Yetunde FaithBackground: This study assesses the accessibility of library resources for disadvantaged students at the School of Special Needs in Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria, focusing on inclusive library services to support their educational needs. Method: A descriptive survey research design was employed, guided by three research questions. The study population included 105 disadvantaged students, with a complete enumeration sampling technique applied. Data were collected using a self-structured questionnaire, offered in alternative formats (large print, braille) with interpreter support for accessibility. Responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequencies and percentages. Findings/Results: Students reported that easier access to information enables them to contribute meaningfully to societal advancement. The primary challenge identified was insufficient support from library staff, while the key strategy to enhance accessibility was the adoption of assistive technologies, such as braille displays and screen readers. Implications: Improving library accessibility for disadvantaged students can enhance their educational experience and societal contributions, requiring targeted interventions like advanced technologies and improved staff support. Conclusion: Enhancing inclusive library services for disadvantaged students necessitates a multifaceted approach, including the integration of assistive technologies and better staff training to address accessibility barriers. Recommendations: The school should invest in assistive technologies, such as braille displays, screen readers, and other adaptive tools, and provide comprehensive staff training to improve the accessibility of library resources for students with disabilities.Item Readiness And Challenges Of Implementing Internet Of Things (Iot) In Nigerian Library Operations(NLA Niger State Chapter, 2025-06-20) Makinde Emmanuel Tunde; Tyoyila Simon Bem; Omokide Jimoh Maimunat; Owoeye Oluwafemi SamuelAdopting the Internet of Things (IoT) in library operations transforms information management and service delivery worldwide. However, Nigerian libraries face significant challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, insufficient funding, a lack of skilled personnel, and cybersecurity concerns. This paper evaluated the readiness of Nigerian libraries for IoT adoption by identifying key enablers and obstacles influencing implementation. Using a literature-based approach, the research reviews existing studies on library IoT applications, focusing on infrastructure readiness, policy frameworks, security concerns, and workforce competency. Key challenges include limited technological resources, inadequate training for library professionals, and insufficient institutional support. However, with targeted investment in digital infrastructure, capacity-building programs, strong policy frameworks, and strategic partnerships, Nigerian libraries can successfully integrate IoT to improve service delivery. The paper recommends a phased implementation approach for IoT, stakeholder collaboration, and sustainable funding mechanisms to enhance library operations and promote access to innovative information services, thereby positioning Nigerian libraries as key players in the digital information ecosystem.
