Item Investigating the influence of organisational culture on the performance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)(International Journal Of Research In Business And Social Science, 2021-02-02) Adeyinka R. Oluwa; Abbas Umar IbrahimThe study assessed the influence of organizational culture on the performance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Abuja. The questionnaire used was created based on Cameron and Quinn’s Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI) in identifying different types of organizational culture. Using a cross-sectional survey research design, the primary data was obtained through administered structured questionnaire to one hundred and twenty-seven (127) SMEs at different sampled locations in Nigeria. Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis was used to identify the relationship that exist between the variables and the results revealed that organizational culture measured by clan culture, market culture, adhocracy culture and Hierarchy culture variables have significant relationship of r = 0.616, 0.514, 0.604 and 0.784 respectively with performance. The study concludes that organizational culture has significant influence on the performance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Abuja and that Hierarchy culture is found important in promoting innovative performance than the other type of culture. The study recommendation is thus that SME owners should ensure that all new employees receive a formal briefing on the company's traditions, beliefs, vision, and strategies. They should create and print a common set of procedures and policies to promote seamless discharge of duties and responsibilities in such a way that will foster innovative performance in the work placeItem Effect of COVID-19 Pandemic on the Performance of Small and Medium Business Enterprises in Abuja-FCT, Nigeria(Scientific Research Publishing, 2021-02-02) Ozigi Emmanuel Enesi; Abbas Umar IbrahimIt is obvious that corona virus pandemic has seriously disrupted the world economy and continuing to ravage the existence of businesses. The small and medium businesses are worst hit. This study specifically identifies the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on the performance of SMEs business in Abuja and providing recommendations on how their businesses can improve and perform effectively during this falling economy and the numerous challenges caused by the pandemic. The study adopted a quantitative research technique using data collection method through the administration of structured questionnaire and on 10 selected SMEs with 100 respondents in Municipal Area Council in Abuja which were selected purposively to elicit insights into the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on their businesses. Findings from the analysis indicated that the COVID-19 pandemic’s effect includes: loss of competent staff resulting from reduction in staff salary, low revenue or income generation, lack of patronage, and lack of sincerity on the part of government to re duce the prevalence of the pandemic. The SMEs are often faced with problems such as: inability to pay salaries, repay loans and rent. Most respondent suggested that government should introduce a well monitored and structured palliative schemes, poverty alleviation programs, reduced interest rates, relax loans and defer tax payments. There are related variables that were not mentioned in this study. It is therefore necessary to consider them in future research workItem Owner Characteristics And Access To Bank Financing(Timisoara Journal of Economics and Business, 2020-02-02) Lukman Adebayo Oke; Uthman Ahmad Bukola; Alade Ayodeji AdemokoyaThe study examines the influence of owner specific factors on access to bank financing among SMEs in North Central Nigeria. Self-administered questionnaires were employed for data collection from the sampled SME owners/managers in the study area. A sample of 280 SMEs was drawn from the population of 1030 SMEs. Logistic regression was used in analyzing the data. The study found that gender, personal networking and personal relationship with the bank, which are significant at 0.05, 0.1 and 0.1 respectively, are the owner characteristics influencing SMEs’ financial access, whereas the owner’s age, education, experience, financial literacy and personal wealth do not have significant influence on SMEs’ access to bank financing in the region. The study concluded that while all the identified owner’s attributes are complementarily important in financial access, banks are more gender biased, value personal relationship and networking ability of firm owners. The study therefore, recommended among others, the need for SME owners to establish and maintain more improved relationships with their banks and form strong linkages with relevant stakeholders in the external environment for better resource exchange including financial access.
